Nokia counters the iPhone with its 5800 tube by adding a stylus and handwriting recognition. Something many old touchscreen users are addicted to. While this app does its best, it isn’t a full replacement for anything we have seen on windows mobile and symbian. Guess, Apple needs to integrate this as well. However, that is unlikely to happen. So for the moment we have this app. Hand-writing recognition on the iPhone would be like a dream come true. Though we have it on 1.x.x via iPhone cake repository named handwriting recognition (Its not available for 2.x).
Now we have AppStore app writepad which does the trick. Writepad is a free appstore app available via AppStore. The surprising thing is that the app works pretty well. You can write anything, and it gets converted to text automatically. The text can then be edited, or sent to the Mail application to be emailed. You also have an option to cut/paste the text and some more options below.
Also, since WritePad has no keyboard, it uses sets of on-screen gestures that act as keyboard input, like backspace or select. For instance, to select all of the text, you swipe from the bottom-left to the top-right and back; then, to backspace, simply go from right to left.
When you first open the app, you’re greeted with a page that explains more of gestures and how to operate while inside the application.
